Albuquerque Police Sixth Area Command Headquarters

This new 26,345 gsf community based Police Headquarters is to be locate in the Albuquerque Police Department’s (APD) Sixth area of northwest Albuquerque and is designed to achieve USGBC’s LEED-NC Silver Certification. Currently entering the Construction Phase, APD and RMKM Architecture have designed the facility to excel in energy efficiency through abundant natural light, efficient lighting with daylight dimming, photovoltaic power, and geothermal heating and cooling.  Additional notable features are improved indoor air quality, water use reduction and rainwater harvesting for the landscape irrigation.

Designed as a decentralized community policing headquarters the new facility will be APD’s largest substation and one of the first ground-up LEED Certified facilities for the City of Albuquerque (COA). Integral to the project will be “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) principles, a community meeting center, a state of the art concentric layered security system, and once operational, this facility will join with the recently completed AFD Fire Station Twenty One to form a cohesive COA Public Safety complex serving the residents of NW Albuquerque near Ellison Road and Cibola Loop.
