The beautiful Lake Arthur Park setting inspires the library’s siting, functional distribution, and architecture. The plan is open and organized around a central circulation desk that enhances staff supervision; reading areas and collections are arranged along the library’s north side to benefit from park views and north light. The architecture is modernist in form and detail and based on an asymmetrical composition of solid and transparent planes and volumes. Major design goals included developing a facility that would provide the small town of Estancia a “living room” center appealing to all ages.
