The Albuquerque Museum

This project is a major expansion to the existing Albuquerque Museum and represents phase one of a two-phase master plan. The program required expanded and improved facilities to enhance the numerous programs dedicated to art, history, and education.  Program spaces included a new entrance lobby, special events hall, changing exhibits gallery, museum store, and museum café. In addition, “behind the scenes” functions including collections and exhibits preparations and materials storage were also identified. Site program requirements called for a new entrance plaza, outdoor performance amphitheater, and extensive outdoor sculpture gardens to accommodate an existing and growing collection. One of the most important project goals identified was that the architecture of the “new” Albuquerque Museum help the institution “raise its voice” in the community.
