The multi-functional facility (gymnasium and performing arts center) is a form influenced by sound, light, and surroundings. Acoustical solutions consist of an interior boundary system comprised entirely of non-parallel building planes, and the balanced placement of sound absorptive/reflective surfaces. The opaque building envelope admits daylighting through a transparent north façade, and a dual-venue “black box” stage floats freely in the halo of light. Precedent colors and materials are remembered, and with open air functions serving as the glue, old and new coalesce.
